GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Freshman Rachael Loomis (Fargo, N.D.) scored three goals Wednesday afternoon to lead Fighting Sioux soccer to a 4-3 victory over Bemidji State in UND's first exhibition game of the season.
UND struck first with Loomis' first goal at 27:13 off a pass from Lauren Herrmann (Jr., Eagan, Minn.). Bemidji State came back at 49:50 when Ashlee Ellefsen scored off a pass from Kelly Hvare and Jamie Ford.
The Fighting Sioux came back strong in the second when Loomis scored back-to-back goals at 55:15 and 55:51, assisted by Becca Krynski (So., Rapid City, S.D.) and Herrmann.
Bemidji State bounced back with a goal of their own at 74:48, bringing them within striking distance. Fighting Sioux captain Lara Traczyk (Sr., Markham, Ont.) increased UND's lead to two with her goal at 88:59. Traczyk was assisted by Kirsten Zachman (Jr., Mahtomedi, Minn.). Analey Skog rounded out the scoring for the Beavers at 89:06 with a goal assisted by Ellefsen.
The Fighting Sioux out shot the Beavers 16-7 on the day.
UND will wrap-up exhibition play on Friday, August 20 at Bronson Field when they take on Augustana at 6 p.m.
