Women's and men's basketball teams host South Dakota

GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- It's big week for the University of North Dakota basketball teams. The Fighting Sioux host South Dakota on Saturday at Betty Engelstad Sioux Center.

South Dakota is going through the NCAA Division I process with the Fighting Sioux. Both will be conference mates in the Great West starting next season.

For the UND women's team, revenge is on the mind. The Fighting Sioux lost all three games to the Coyotes last season and want payback.

"This year we definitely have that chip [on our shoulder]," senior forward Kierah Kimbrough said. "We remember last year to the point where we're going to come out firing."

The last time the UND men's team played South Dakota, it was the Sioux that shocked their opponent. With a senior class that had never beat the Coyotes, UND beat South Dakota in the North Central Conference tournament.

It was in that game that has set the style of this year's UND team and built the foundation for UND's Division I transition.

"I think that definitely was a turning point," UND senior guard Wes Porter said. "It was our marquee win of the season and jumpstarted what we've been trying to do the last couple of years."

The women's game starts at 2 p.m. and the men's game follows at approximately 4 p.m.
