COLLEGE STATION, Texas.--Josh Carter scored a game-high 18 points and Chinemelu Elonu added 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead Texas A&M to a 76-62 win over the Fighting Sioux tonight in front of 6,066 at Reed Arena.
Junior guard Travis Bledsoe came off the Sioux bench to score a team-high 13 points. He also made the 100th 3-pointer of his career, going 3-for-5 from beyond the arc.
The Aggies improved to 14-1 win the win while the Sioux fell to 8-6.
Donald Sloan and B.J. Holmes had 14 each points each for A&M, which led from start to finish.
North Dakota pulled within four at 37-33 three minutes into the second half on Derek Benter's (So., Crosby, N.D.) 3-pointer. But Holmes responded with two 3-pointers over the next two minutes to shove the Aggies' lead back to double digits at 43-33.
Following Benter's 3-pointer, the Aggies outscored the Fighting Sioux 19-5 over the next 10 minutes to put away their 10th consecutive victory.
"I am really proud of our guys," said UND head coach Brian Jones. "We really battled tonight. A lot of things had to go well for us to be in the game and they did early on. We came out and made some shots early and that kept us in it, but their size and strength were tough for us to handle late in the second half."
Bledsoe was joined in double figures by three Sioux teammates. Junior forward Travis Mertens (Jr., Devils Lake, N.D.) had 11 points, while senior guard Daniel Harkins (Portage, Wis.) and senior forward O.J. Harrison (Danville, Ill.) each scored 10 points.
The Aggies led by 14 with 3:46 remaining in the first half, but North Dakota outscored A&M 10-2 down the stretch to only trail 33-27 at halftime.
UND shot 47.7 percent from the floor and matched its season high with nine 3-pointers (20 attempts). The Sioux also converted 11-of-13 free throws, for a season-best 84.6 percent.
The Aggies shot 44.2 percent from the field and outrebounded the Sioux 34-23.
UND now returns home for a four-game homestand beginning Jan. 13 against Mary.
