GRAND FORKS, ND -- In its first meeting against Houston Baptist on the soccer field, the University of North Dakota fell short as the Huskies came away with a 2-1 victory.
Mandi Boehmer (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) scored UND's only goal while Rachael Loomis (Fargo, N.D.) had seven shots, six on goal, as the Sioux fall to 1-10-1 (0-2-0 GWC).
All of the games scoring came in the first half with the Sioux falling down 2-0 with goals by Gabby Trujillo (8:48) and Brandi Hart for the Huskies (6-6-1, 2-0-0 GWC).
Boehmer scored at 35:31 to cut into the lead on a penalty kick gained by a great individual effort by Sarah Penner (Winnipeg, Manitoba) who split two defenders before being tripped up in the box.
The Sioux had 14 shots on the game with 11 of them on goal, but Michelle Rich made ten saves (all but the penalty kick). Shots-on-goal finished with the Sioux ahead 11-7.
Lauren Sera (Winnipeg, Manitoba) was in net for UND making five saves.
The Sioux have a rematch against HBU next weekend in its next action on Sunday before taking on Texas Southern in non-conference action on Monday. Both games are in Houston, Texas, with scheduled 1 p.m. starts.
