Sioux fall to Huskers to open action in Adidas Husker Tournament

LINCOLN, Neb. --- The University of North Dakota soccer team was able to score a late goal in the first half of its opening game of the Adidas Husker Tournament to pull with in one goal, but host Nebraska scored four unanswered goals in the second half for a 6-1 win.

Freshman Rhaya Ballon scored her second goal of the season for UND's lone goal.

The Cornhuskers grabbed the early lead only 4:48 into the first stanza on an 'own goal' and added to its lead when Morgan Marlborough was able to score past Sioux goalkeeper Lauren Sera (Winnipeg, Manitoba) at the 26:49 mark for the two goal lead.

Rogers, Minn., native, Ballon was able to put the Sioux on the scoreboard when she was able to beat Cornhusker netminder Tara Macdonald from the top of the goalie box at 33:21. The Score would hold going into halftime.

Nebraska was able to pull away in the second half with goals at 46:55, 51:55, 53:07 and 77:35.

Senior Mandi Boehmer led the Sioux with three shot attempts while Sera made four saves in net.

UND will return to action Sunday at 10:15 when they conclude action at the tournament against Creighton (6-1-1) who beat Akron 3-0 earlier today.
