GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The University of North Dakota soccer team and Northern State played to a 2-2 (2OT) tie this afternoon at Bronson Field. Sarah Penner scored both goals for UND (1-4-1).

A senior and Winnipeg, Manitoba, native, Penner got the scoring started only 4:49 into the match when she was able to connect on a header past Wolves (2-3-1) goalkeeper Dee Wood. Junior Becca Krynski (Rapid City, S.D.) put a corner kick into play where sophomore Kelsey Zachman (Mahtomedi, Minn) was able to send a cross pass that Penner was able to connect on.

After the goal the Sioux had a few chances to add to their lead but could not take advantage which allowed the Wolves to even the game going into halftime when Summer Swan scored on strike past Lauren Sera (Winnipeg, Manitoba) from 15 yards out, just inside the left post. The goal came with only 1:26 remaining in the half.

"I think our team came out a little bit flat in the beginning part but we showed some resiliency in the overtimes," head coach Kristen Gay said. "Obviously Sarah Penner had a great game today with two goals, we just couldn't put away chances."

Penner was able to regain the lead for the Sioux with another quick goal to start a half, this time only 1:36 into the second half for her second of the game and third of the year. Senior Mandi Boehmer collected the lone assist on the goal that came from 10 yards out, just inside the right post.

NSU again evened the game when Stephanie Connelly was able to connect on a header off a corner kick which closed out the games scoring.

Sera would finish the game with five saves. The Sioux had 22 shot attempts (nine on goal) while the Wolves had 15 (eight on goal).

The Sioux will return to action this weekend when they take on Montana (4:30 p.m. Friday) and Nevada (10:30 a.m. Sunday) at the University of Minnesota Tournament.
