Sioux conclude Minnesota Gold Classic in 3-1 loss

ST. PAUL, Minn. --- North Dakota soccer wrapped up a weekend road trip to the Minnesota Gold Classic with a loss to Nevada which ended 3-1.

Rhaya Ballon (Rogers, Minn.) scored the Sioux lone goal for her third goal of the year as the Sioux fall to 1-6-1 on the year. The Wolf Pack improve to 3-6-0.

The Wolf Pack scored its first goal on a penalty kick in the 13th minute after goalkeeper Monica Stierman (Mahtomedi, Minn.) went out to challenge a defender on the side of the net and was called for a foul in a sliding tackle attempt. Annabelle Allen was able to score on the penalty kick.

Nevada was able to extend its lead at 21:15 when Natalie Ratnavira was able to score off a rebound for a 2-0 lead which would hold going into the half.

It was only 2:59 into the second half when Ballon was able to cut into the Wolf Pack lead when she was able to beat Nevada netminder Dana Moreno one-on-one unassisted.

Nevada was able to get the two-goal lead back when Sarah Voss corralled a rebound that went off the crossbar and slipped it just inside the left post.

North Dakota will return to action next weekend as the Sioux open Great West Conference play on Friday in Vermillion, S.D., against South Dakota with a scheduled 4 p.m. start.
