VERMILLION, S.D. --- The University of North Dakota soccer squad met South Dakota in action for the second time in three days on Sunday falling to the Coyotes 2-1.

Sioux (1-2-0) sophomore Rachael Loomis (Fargo, N.D.) scored the lone goal for the Sioux coming with only 5:47 remaining that cut the USD (2-1-0) lead to 2-1. Loomis was able to score on a header over Coyotes goalkeeper Jennifer Ogren. The goal was UND's only shot on goal in the game.

"It is a tough loss to take but we battled back to get within one," head coach Kristen Gay said. "We will regroup and look forward to playing them in October."

The first half went scoreless before Katie Quinones was able to put the Coyotes on the scoreboard at 69:20 with her fourth goal of the season (all in the last two games vs. the Sioux) putting a long shot over Sioux netminder Lauren Sera (Winnipeg, Manitoba).

USD was able to gain to its lead with another long shot over Sera when Emily Maas scored at 71:09.

There were only five shots on goal in the game with both teams making the best of those opportunities with the three goals. Sera was able to make two saves while Odgren did not make a save. UND had nine total shot attempts while the Coyotes had 13.

The Sioux also had 10 corner kicks in the game but were not able to take advantage.

Loomis led the team with four shot attempts with senior Mandi Boehmer (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) adding two and seniors Kirsten Zachman (Mahtomedi, Minn) and Sarah Penner (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and junior Alex Zarling (Fargo, N.D.) adding a shot apiece.

The Sioux will look to get back in the win column Friday when they head to Lincoln, Neb., to take part in the Nebraska Tournament. The Sioux will face host Nebraska on Friday (5 p.m.) and Creighton on Sunday (1 p.m.).
