EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - If the Fighting Sioux men's golf team wanted to end the fall season with plenty of momentum to carry into the spring, it accomplished exactly that today at the Southern Illinois-Edwardsville Intercollegiate.
UND sophomore Alex Robb (Chanhassen, Minn.) led the field during today's final round with a one-under-par 71, solidifying a fourth-place tie in the individual standings. Meanwhile, UND shot a final-round 305, the third-lowest score today among the eight-team field, to finish in fifth place. The Sioux finished with a team score of 929 (309-315-305).
Robb's final-round 71 tied him with tournament medalist Will Hogan of Missouri State for today's lowest score. Robb finished the two-day, three-round tournament with an eight-over 224 (77-76-71).
Missouri State won the tournament with an 897 (304-292-301).
Sophomore Nick Schaefer (Grand Forks) and junior Tyler Monda (Brainerd, Minn.) combined with Robb to give the Sioux three golfers among the top 16 in the field of over 50. Schaefer tied for 12th with a 230 (76-78-76), while Monda tied for 16th with a 233 (76-80-77).
The tournament was UND's final action of the fall season. The Sioux will resume competition in March.
