Former Sioux Chorney named to U.S. national team

GRAND FORKS, N.D.-Former University of North Dakota All-America defenseman Taylor Chorney, now with the NHL's Edmonton Oilers, has been named to the United States roster for the upcoming International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Hockey Championship.

Chorney, who played at UND from 2005-08, split the 2009-10 season between Edmonton and its American Hockey League affiliate, the Springfield Falcons. In 42 games with the Oilers, Chorney collected three assists. He had four goals and nine assists in 32 games with Springfield.

It will be the first IIHF World Championship for Chorney, who won a bronze medal with Team USA at the 2007 World Junior Championship.

Chorney played in 126 career games at North Dakota and amassed 14 goals and 59 points for 73 points. He led the Sioux to the NCAA Frozen Four in each of his three seasons and was a second-team All-American as a sophomore in 2006-07.

The IIHF World Championship runs May 7-23, in Germany.
