GREEN BAY, Wis. - North Dakota
sophomore Nick Schaefer shot a three-under-par 70 today, tied for the lowest
round in the entire tournament, during the final round of the Green Bay
Invitational at the Green Bay Country Club.
Schafer,
a Grand Forks native, finished the two-day, three-round event with a 227 (80-77-70)
to tie for 14th place. His surge during the final round mirrored
that of the entire Sioux team, which carded a 296 after opening the tournament
with a 320 and 312 in the first two rounds, respectively.
UND
was able to climb two spots in the team standings today and place seventh.
St.
Ambrose finished first with an 888 (303-293-292) while Lewis University's
Brandon White shot a 220 (72-75-73) and captured medalist honors in a tie
breaker.
Sioux
teammates Tyler Monda (Jr., Brainerd, Minn.) and Peter Pomonis (RFr., Bismarck,
N.D.) tied for 21st with a 232.
Alex
Robb (So., Chanhassen, Minn.) tied for 36th with a 240 (79-85-76)
and Matt Wrolstad (Jr., Fargo, N.D.) tied for 48th with a 250
(87-82-81).
Freshmen
Sean Halverson (Brainerd, Minn.) and Conor Borud (Hazen, N.D.) competed as
individuals for the Sioux. Halverson carded a 242 (75-83-84) to placed 42nd,
while Borud placed 60th with a 264 (89-91-84).
UND
returns to action Sept. 20-22 at the Erv Kaiser Invitational in Fargo.
