This summer on FightingSioux.com, we'll have a number of features
that highlight the upcoming year and remember some of the great moments
of the past.
This week we were saddened by the loss of one of the all-time greats for the University of North Dakota. Ken Purpur, a UND athletics Hall of Fame member and former men's hockey player (1951-54) passed away.
Purpur did many great things during his time at UND. He went on to better. He won the Silver Medal with the U.S.A. Olympic Team in 1956. He was named Rapid City Teacher of the Year in 1990. He had a great effect on many.
At UND he scored 117 points in 72 games, ranking second or third in points each year he played. The center was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1989.
Share your photos, memories or anything on your mind on the UND athletics Facebook page.

Purpur ranks as one of UND's all-time great hockey centers as an excellent skater, outstanding passer, a deft stick-handler and could shoot with the best.
This photo and cutline were taken from the 1952 Dacotah yearbook. In the photo above, more than 10,000 watched the series against Minnesota.
Purpur excelled off the ice. He served as president of the 1954 N.D. Law Review.
Purpur, second from the right, was elected into the UND Hall of Fame in 1989.
