UND legend Bill Steenson passes away

William Steenson, who played for the Fighting Sioux hockey team from 1956-59 and a University of North Dakota Hall of Fame member, passed away.

Steenson, a native of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, was a three-time All-American on defense for UND. Steenson was known for his size, but considered one of the most able defenseman in UND history.

Steenson served as captain of the 1958-59 team, leading UND to its first NCAA national championship. The defenseman scored 14 points (three goals, 11 assists) in 23 games that season.

Steenson ended his career with 12 goals, 33 assists and 45 points. He was elected in the UND athletics Hall of Fame in 1976.
