With the start of the 2011-12 North Dakota volleyball season less than two weeks away, now is a good time for fans to familiarize themselves with the new additions to the UND roster. Last week the players provided quick, 10 second introductions. Today we dive a little bit deeper into their personal lives.
Name: Emily Asche
Position: Outside hitter
Year: 2011
Hometown: Grand Forks, N.D.
Major: Business
Why she chose UND: Because of the volleyball program and it is close to home.
Relatives who have played college or professional sports: Mother, Coleen Asche, played volleyball at Valley City State.
Career plans: Something in business.
If she could have ANY job, it be: A professional scuba diver.
Hobbies: Going to the lake and skiing.

Person she admires most: My dad because he has good advice about life and he wants me to succeed.
Best part about being a Fighting Sioux is: Being on a team.
Why she choose her jersey number: It's a good number and I didn't like the other number choices much.
Person she pretended to be when she was little: Sleeping Beauty

Name: Naomi Dahl
Position: Defensive Specialist
Year: Freshman
Hometown: Kennedy, Minn.
Major: Pre-Athletic Training
Why she chose UND: I've always wanted to go here since I was young.
Relatives who have played college or professional sports: Uncle, Brian Dahl, played football at MSU Moorhead and went to go on to play for the Vikings. However, he broke his thumb in pre-season.

Why she choose her jersey number: Ellen has the number I always used to have so I picked the closest number to it.

Year: Senior
Hometown: Detroit Lakes, Minn.
Major: Physical Education, Exercise Science and Wellness with a minor in occupational therapy
Why she chose UND: Originally for the basketball tradition and great school.
Most memorable moment at UND: Winning the Great West Conference in basketball my junior year.
Relatives who have played or are playing college or professional sports: Sister, Morgan Lof, plays basketball at St. Cloud State.
Career plans: Attend OT school this summer.

Why she choose her jersey number: It was Kevin Garnetts number when he played for the Timberwolves. I had it for basketball and now get to keep it for volleyball.
Person she pretended to be when she was little: Usually a horse. Weird, I know.

Position: Defensive Specialist

Hometown: Andover, Minn.
Major: Nursing
Relatives who have played college or professional sports: My sister, Jenna, played volleyball at Mankato.
Career plans: Become a nurse and part-time firefighter.
If she could have ANY job, it be: An underwater welder. They make bank.

Why she choose her jersey number: I have always been 25, 15 or 5. So I had to have a five somewhere in the number.
