SAN JOSE STATE, Calif. -- Led by 13 kills and six blocks from sophomore middle blocker Lisa Parlich (Delavan, Wis.), North Dakota (6-3) bounced back from this afternoon's loss to UC Santa Barbara to collect a sweep (25-19, 25-22, 25-21) over San Jose State (2-5).
"I liked how we bounced back quickly and were able to beat San Jose State on their home court," head coach Ashley Hardee said. "Lisa and Tia [Russell] were fantastic offensively, and we had another good night at the net as far as blocking is concerned.
Riding a balanced attack on both offense and defense, UND won the initial set 25-19. The Sioux combined for 11 kills, four blocks and a trio of aces.
UND took a 2-0 lead with a close 25-22 victory in set two. The Spartans held the advantage early in the frame until the Sioux evened things at 9-9. The two teams traded points back-and-forth until a trio of kills from Parlich and costly errors by SJSU allowed UND to take a 22-18 lead. The Sioux closed the set with kills from seniors Devin Trefz (OH, Bagley, Minn.), Annika Smed (OH, Albert Lea, Minn.) and Tia Russell (MB, Brooklyn Park, Minn.).
Parlich came out swinging in the third set the lead UND to the 25-21 win. She landed four of the first five kills for the Sioux, and finished with a team-best seven kills with no errors.
Adding to Parlich's 13 kills on the night, Smed landed nine, Trefz finished with eight, and Russell added another seven, and sophomore middle blocker Ronni Munkeby (Lisbon, N.D.) notched three.
Redshirt freshman setter Nikki Husfeldt (Andover, Minn.) led the team 33 assists and nine digs.
As a whole, UND out-hit SJSU .221-.133 and held an 11-8 blocking advantage.
"Our work isn't done," Hardee said. "We'll get a good night's sleep, and then we'll start preparations to take on Santa Clara tomorrow."
The Sioux will conclude their California trip tomorrow at 3 p.m. when they face Santa Clara for the first time in program history.
