UND routs Jimmies

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - Senior Madi Buck led a quartet of North Dakota players in double figures as the home team routed Jamestown, 93-56, at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center on Tuesday in non-conference action. The offensive outburst came thanks to a 50-point effort after halftime as UND shot 50.8 percent from the floor for the game.

Buck had a game-high 21 points, Mia Loyd added 16 and freshman Leah Szabla had her highest output as a collegian with 14. Backcourt teammate Kelsey Knox also had the best effort of her young career with 11 points off the bench.

Szabla also added six assists in a contest that saw the Green and White build a 43-22 advantage at halftime behind a 53.3 percent shooting effort from the floor. That effort combated just a 6-for-30 clip for the visitors, who did not make a 2-point field goal until just over seven minutes remained in the half.

The Jimmies cut the deficit down to 14 points just over five minutes into the second half, but a quick 10-0 run by UND over the next two mintues made it a 59-35 contest and North Dakota was in command the rest of the way.

Jamestown would hit back-to-back 3-pointers, but the home team countered with the next 21 points to build its largest lead of the game at 80-41. That big run spanned more than five minutes.

UND also owned the glass, out-rebounding the Jimmies, 56-32, with Emily Evers grabbing 10 while Buck and Loyd each contributed nine.

Hannah Steele had 20 points to lead Jamestown's attack, including an 11-of-12 effort from the free throw line.

North Dakota (2-2) is next in action next Wednesday at Milwaukee. The game is slated for an 11:00 a.m. Central start.

Notes: Several players notched career high in points: Leah Szabla (14), Kelsey Knox (11), Ellie Ripplinger (5) and Samantha Roscoe (2) ... UND's 50 points in the second half were its most in a half since a 51-point first half in an 88-48 win over Texas-Pan American on Mar. 9, 2012 ... North Dakota recorded 10 blocks as a team for the second straight game ... Ripplinger made a putback and a jumper and is now 3-for-3 from the floor in her young career.
