McIntyre lands Mike Richter Award as top DI goalie

BOSTON – University of North Dakota junior goaltender Zane McIntyre has been named the 2014-15 recipient of the Mike Richter Award, given annually to the most outstanding goalie in NCAA Division I men's hockey.

McIntyre received the honor this morning at TD Garden from the award's namesake, who spent 14 seasons with the National Hockey League's New York Rangers, leading the franchise to a Stanley Cup championship in 1994. Richter was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2008.

The NCHC Goaltender of the Year and an All-NCHC First Team selection, McIntyre appeared in all 42 of UND's games in 2014-15 (41 starts) tying the school record for single-season appearances.

The Thief River Falls, Minn., native went 29-10-3 with a 2.05 goals against average and a .929 save percentage, his win total and save percentage both ranking as the second-best in UND single-season history.

McIntyre leads the nation in wins, appearances, starts and minutes played (2493:21) and ranks second in saves (1,111), fifth in winning percentage (.726), and 12th in save percentage.
