UND breaks 300 for first time under Swanson

Omaha, Neb. -- Senior captain Aaron Pulanco shot an even-par 72 to help the North Dakota men's golf team break 300 for the first time under third-year head coach Tim Swanson. Pulanco's even-par effort helped UND post a 298 (+10), which was only bettered by three teams in the final round of the UNO Invitational presented by Health Care Information Systems.

The 298 moved UND into a ninth-place finish at a tournament that Iowa Western Community College won by 10 strokes over Oral Roberts. IWCC shot a final round 303 (+15), but took a 12-shot lead into the day and was never threatened.

Senior Jacob Dehne finished in a tie for 11th to top the UND players in the field as he shot a final round 75 (+3) to finish with a career best 54-hole total of 221 (+5). Freshman Jordan Smith matched Dehne's final round score of 75 (+3), which was his best effort of the three-round tournament.

Sophomore Jack McClintock was just one stroke off that pace, carding a 76 (+4) in his final round that included four birdies on the front nine. Smith also had four birdies on his round, while Pulanco was sitting at two-under through 15 holes before dropping two strokes in his closing three holes. He still equaled his career best 54-hole score of 228 (+12).

UND's next tournament is the closest one it will play to Grand Forks this season as the squad travels to Dakota Dunes, S.D. for the Coyote Classic. The 54-hole tournament begins Monday.
