MOSCOW, Idaho -- The University of North Dakota soccer team dropped a 5-1 decision to Idaho on Sunday afternoon at Guy Wicks Field.
With the loss UND is now 1-8-2 (0-3-0 Big Sky) on the season, while Idaho moves up to 6-4-2 (3-1-0 Big Sky).
Freshman Jennifer Pippin scored her first collegiate goal as the lone tally for the Fighting Hawks. She scored a header off a cross from Liz McDowell in the 90th minute.
Pippine also led UND with three shot attempts in the contest, and her goal was the lone shot on net for North Dakota. Sophomore Riley Koberinski had two shot attempts in the game.
“We played a solid first half, but we just couldn't match their energy in the second half,” head coach Matt Kellogg said. “And against a team like Idaho, if you don't go into every tackle 100-percent, you will come up short. It will be nice to be back home this weekend and we hope to get things back on the right track.”
North Dakota kept the Vandals to one goal during the first half, but unfortunately in the second half, Idaho scored four more times, including once on a penalty kick in the 69th minute.
Sophomore keeper Olivia Swenson started the contest in net for UND, but after playing 83 minutes, redshirt freshman Jacqueline Wells made her collegiate debut playing the game's final seven minutes.
North Dakota returns home to Bronson Field next weekend, hosting Northern Arizona on Friday, Oct. 7, and Southern Utah on Sunday, Oct. 9. Kick off against the Lumberjacks is scheduled for 4 p.m. (CT).
