St. George, Utah -- Sophomore
Jack McClintock and senior
Jacob Dehne both broke par for the North Dakota men's golf team in the opening round of the Pizza Hut Pat Hick's Invite Monday.
Those two make up the first duo to achieve that in the same round during head coach Tim Swanson's two-plus seasons at the helm of the program.
McClintock paced the Fighting Hawks with 70 (-2), matching his collegiate best set as a freshman when he was at St. Cloud State. McClintock, whose round included a team-high five birdies, is tied for sixth and four shots off the pace of Utah State's Seokwon Jeon, who fired a 66 (-6).
Dehne was also in the top 10 after an opening-round 71 (-1) that included four birdies. Those two under-par rounds helped UND equal its best team score under Swanson with a 297 (+9).
Junior
Daniel Sayler also put together a solid round with a 75 (+3). Sayler's score is just one stroke off his career-best that he has shot twice before.
UND sits in seventh place in the 12-team field that includes three other Big Sky teams. Utah Valley holds a three-stroke lead on Weber State and Utah (290; +2) after opening with 287 (-1).
The Fighting Hawks will wrap up the 36-hole event on Tuesday with second-round play.
