UNDsports.com helps you get to know your 2016 North Dakota softball team. This week we get to know freshman outfielder Savannah Furia. She is a native of Seattle Wash., and is undecided on a major. How did you get started in softball?
I started playing softball when I was around seven years old.
What is your goal for the season?
My goal for the season is to help take my team to the conference tournament and win it!!!
Which athlete inspires you the most?
Lauren Chamberlain. She's arguably the best player in college softball history, and continues to work harder than almost any other player. She carries the team on her back and always has a relentless attitude.
What would you like to be remembered for?
I want to be remembered as a relentless player. I want to be known as a player that goes all out all of the time, taking hacks at pitches, diving for everything possible, and always being aggressive in all aspects of the game.
What is your pre-game ritual, if you have one?
Listening to music. I have certain songs that "set the mood" before the game.
What are your hobbies outside of athletics?
I love hiking and biking and anything outdoors. My favorite things to do besides softball are explore the outdoors in any way I can.
Name one thing most people would be surprised to know about you?
People would probably be surprised that I did a ton of ice skating when I was younger, such as competitive ice skating. I'm not quite sure how I did it either honestly.
If you weren't an athlete, what would you be doing?
I would be traveling. I want to travel all around Europe one day, so I would probably be studying abroad.
If you had to play a sport other than softball, which sport would you play?
I would play soccer, as it's a sport I played for 14 years and really loved. I enjoyed the physical aspect of it.
Which sport at UND do you think you would be the worst at? Why?
Golf. Putt-putt throughout the years has proven I cannot make any kind of shot, even from a few feet.
Who has made the biggest impact in your life?
My dad. He was the one for 15 years that would go out to the backyard every single day and hit with me, or hit grounders and fly balls to me. He has put in so much effort to help me succeed, and I'm forever thankful for that.
What is your goal after you graduate?
I want to graduate as a nurse and hopefully travel to a less fortunate country to help kids there gain access to the healthcare they deserve.
What is your favorite movie of all time and why?
A League of Their Own, I use to watch it every single night when I was little, so it's special to me.
What makes UND special to you?
The people I have met. I have made so many amazing and wonderful friends. The overall experience has been wonderful.
If you took a teammate to your hometown, where would you take them sight-seeing?
I would take them to the Space Needle, then out to a nice dinner at the pier by the water. I would lastly take them on the Seattle Great Wheel Ferris wheel. They would be treated very well.
If you could live anywhere after graduation, where would you choose?
Europe or New Zealand, if I'm not going into nursing right away, as those are places I really want to explore and learn more about. If I am beginning my nursing career, somewhere in Africa hopefully.
If you were required to single-handedly cook a meal for the entire team, what would be served?
I would cook French onion soup, because it's somewhat simple and delicious. With a nice fresh baguette on the side.
Which celebrity or famous person would you most want to switch lives with for a day? Why?
I want to switch places with Angelina Jolie, she is the ideal role model of what a celebrity should be. She's beautiful, humble, and a great mom. It would be so cool to experience her life.
If you had to wake up to the same song every day for the rest of your life, which song would you choose?
Good Vibrations by Marky Mark, because it could never get old.
