Trygstad collects three hits, UND falls at Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—Redshirt freshman Connor Trygstad collected three hits while classmate Miles Lewis had another multi-hit evening as visiting North Dakota fell 10-6 at Bakersfield Friday night in Western Athletic Conference play.

Bakersfield (17-35, 11-14 WAC) struck first with two in the first inning but North Dakota (8-36, 4-22) came roaring back with three in th ethird to take the lead. That inning saw each of the first four batters record hits, beginning with the bottom of the order, Ellery Bresnahan. Ben Reznicek laid down a bunt single, then Miles Lewis singled through the right side for the first run. Brett Harrison followed with a two-run single up the middle and UND had the advantage.

CSUB got two unearned runs in the fourth to re-claim the lead but North Dakota was able to get the equalizer in the sixth. Trygstad tallied his third straight hit to start the rally, followed by singles from Hayden May and Luis Calvo to knot the score at 4-4.

The Roadrunners plated three in the seventh and three more in the eighth to claim the win. CSUB's win, coupled with UT Rio Grande Valley's loss Friday, punched the Runners' ticket to next week's WAC Tournament.

Junior Zach Muckenhirn went seven innings, striking out nine, allowing four earned runs on seven hits. He finishes his season with 99 Ks and 200 for his career.

The teams wrap up the regular season tomorrow.
