Final game in the books

BAKERSFIELD, Calif.-- A 10-run fourth inning propelled host CSU Bakersfiled to a 16-2 victory Saturday in the season finale for both teams. Bakersfield, the defending league tournament champions, will earn the sixth seed in the upcoming Western Athletic Conference Tournament.

North Dakota (8-37, 4-23 WAC) took the early lead in the first inning. Junior Ben Reznicek was hit by a pitch for the team-leading 11th time this season and later came around to score for a 1-0 advantage.

Senior Brett DeGagne' set down seven straight Roadrunner batters at one point to make that hold up through three, but CSUB scored 10 in the fourth and tacked on six in the fifth to break it open.

UND notched four hits: Miles Lewis, Brett Harrison, Luis Calvo and Hunter Walsh.

Notes: Lewis ends his standout freshman season leading the team in batting (.360), homers (3), runs (22), hits (39) and on-base percentage (.442) ... Lewis' .360 batting average ranked fifth in the WAC ... He stole 20 bases this season, second-most in the league ... Junior left-handed pitcher Zach Muckenhirn finished with 99 strikeouts on the season to lead the conference.
