OMAHA, Neb. -- The University of North Dakota soccer team fell to Omaha, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at Caniglia Field in Omaha, Neb.
"We gave up two early goals today and we were just a step late the whole match," said head coach Matt Kellogg.
Those two goals came in a span of 1:52 for the Mavericks in the opening five minutes to quickly jump out to the lead.
Carlie Cook scored the first goal of the afternoon for Omaha just 2:30 into the game, her third of the season.
Moments later, Ava Doestch scored her first goal of the season as she fired a shot that deflected off of freshman goalkeeper Catherine Klein and into the net to give the Mavericks a 2-0 lead.
Just two days following a tough, defensive game against No. 17 Minnesota UND looked slow to start today's game, but as the match wore on, the Fighting Hawks were able to settle in.
UND was able to outshoot the Mavericks 5-4 over the remaining 40 minutes in the first half; including two good looks from Ally Cranfield.
In the second half, the Fighting Hawks were able to fire six shots on target compared to five for Omaha, but were unable to find the back of the net as the Mavericks combined for the shutout.
Klein finished the afternoon with eight saves on ten Omaha shots to carry an .894 save percentage after four appearances.
Katie Moller led UND with three shots on target to extend her season total to a team-high six.
"We're a young resilient team that will bounce back this week," said Kellogg. "The good news is we don't have to wait long to get back on the field and make things right."
That wait will only last three days as the Fighting Hawks will return to Bronson Field to host South Dakota State on Wednesday.
"Sometimes a quick turnaround like this week is the best thing," said Kellogg on the quick turnaround. "We have to learn what we can from this game and put it behind us and focus on SDSU coming to town on Wednesday."
The Fighting Hawks and the Jacks will kickoff at 4 p.m. from Bronson Field.
