GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- Less than three minutes away from recording its second-straight scoreless tie at home, the University of North Dakota soccer team suffered a defeat at the hands of South Dakota State, 1-0, in double overtime on Wednesday afternoon at Bronson Field.
The Jackrabbits' Kyli Nelson scored off a volley in the 108th minute to give SDSU their second win of the season; while the Fighting Hawks are now 1-3-1 after the loss.
Both sides took a total of 12 shots on net, but SDSU landed eight on net, compared to three on net for UND. Zoe Foster led UND with three shots in the contest, while Katie Moller finished with two shots and two on net.
South Dakota State split time in net with Maggie Smith starting the contest and Nicole Inskeep playing the second half and overtime periods. Smith made one save in the first half and Inskeep finished the game with two.
Freshman keeper Catherine Klein earned the start for UND and made seven saves before SDSU claimed the golden goal.
The South Dakota State goal is the first goal conceded by the Fighting Hawks at Bronson Field this season.
North Dakota returns to Bronson Field on Friday to host in-state rival North Dakota State. Kickoff against the Bisons is scheduled for 4 p.m. (CT).
