GRAND FORKS, N.D.-- Though it was very much in peril in a lackluster third set, the University of North Dakota's home set-winning streak remained intact as the Fighting Hawks rallied for a 25-21, 25-21, 27-25 win over Weber State Saturday morning. UND now has won an incredible 38 consecutive sets at home in the midst of its program-record 19-match home winning streak.

Senior Tamara Merseli recorded her second straight double-double and the 11th of the season with 10 kills and a team-best 23 digs in the win. Faith Dooley contributed 12 kills and Jordan Vail added 10 for the Fighting Hawks.

"Today was just an odd match. We are grateful for the win, but we really never got consistent offensively or defensively," UND head coach Mark Pryor said. "We were locked in mentally for a few points, and then we would lose focus for stretches of time. We had some good performances, and that definitely helped, but I'm not exactly sure that as a team we were really mentally committed today. As the season goes on, that is something that continues to come up. Maybe it's just this time of year, when you can't remember the first part of the season, but you can't see the end in sight yet. We as a staff realize it's tough.

"The good news is that we got a W against an improving Weber State program. The great news is that we are home next week as well."

UND led by as many as a half-dozen in the first set until Weber State rallied to inch back within two at 18-16. North Dakota was able to play sideout ball to finish the set on top, 25-21, against an upset-minded Wildcat team.

In the second, though, North Dakota was the agressor early, piling up a quick 7-3 advantage to force a timeout, then when WSU whittled it back within one, Sydney Griffin toed the service line for seven straight UND points and a seemingly comfortable 16-8 lead. In that stretch, Griffin tallied a pair of service aces and setup kills by Merseli, Julia Kaczorowska and Jordan Vail as the Fighting Hawks looked to put the second set away quickly.

But, WSU had other ideas, ripping off a late 5-1 run to make it 24-21 before North Dakota finally got a Vail kill to finish the set with an identical 25-21 score heading to the break.

In the final set, Weber State appeared poised to snap UND's long home set-winning streak with an incredible run in the middle stages of that stanza. North Dakota led 11-5 when the Wildcats embarked on a 12-1 run that flipped the advantage to WSU. It was still a five-point Weber State lead at 20-15 when Dooley was able to get back into the rotation to score a block and back-to-back kills for some momentum. Later, however, three consecutive Wildcat points made it 24-22 and the visiting team serving with set point on the line.

Vail got a sideout on her fourth kill of the afternoon then was in on a block with Kaczorowska to knot the score at 24-24. Kaczorowska gave UND match point with a kill on the next rally, however, WSU wasn't going away just yet. Vail got another kill to make it 26-25 then UND took the win for its 38th consecutive set in a row at home in the midst of this 19-match home winning streak.

North Dakota (23-4, 8-2 Big Sky) continues its homestand Thursday when it hosts Montana at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. First serve is set for 7:00 p.m.

Notes: North Dakota is 8-0 at home this season, all sweeps ... UND has now won 19 straight home matches with its last loss coming Sep. 3, 2016 vs. Texas Tech ... UND has won an incredible 38 straight sets at home ... UND's last set loss at the Betty was the second set of a 3-1 win over Idaho on Nov. 5, 2016 ... Dooley surpassed 300 kills for the season, becoming just the second UND player to reach 300 kills in four different seasons ... North Dakota is 43-7 at home under Pryor in his four seasons ... Sydney Griffin surpassed the 1,000 assist mark for the third straight season and now has 3,813 career assists, fourth-most in UND history.
