BROOKINGS, S.D. - - The University of North Dakota track and field team's weekend at the South Dakota State Indoor Classic was highlighted by 30 new personal and/or season records as the team continues to improve.
“To see so many new records is exciting,” said head coach Kevin Galbraith. “We are seeing a lot of great improvement and the team is sitting in good condition at this point in the season.”
Leading the way on the women's side was Kyley Foster, who broke the school record with a pole vault clear of 12 feet, 11.50 inches (3.95). Foster was previously tied for the top spot with Jessica Clausnitzer at a mark of 12-09.50 (3.90), which Foster hit last weekend at North Dakota State. Her clear also earns her first in the Big Sky Conference.
Also in the pole vault, freshman Jadyn Nelson earned a personal record with a clear of 10-11.75 (3.35). Her mark ties her for the 10th spot in UND history.
Senior Molly Griep earned both a personal-best and a season-best. The personal best came in the shot put after she hit a mark of 46-10.25 (14.28). The throw puts her in the fifth spot in the Big Sky and moves her up to the third spot in UND history. Her season-best weight throw of 60-09.50 (18.53) earns her the fourth spot in the conference.
On the track, Heather Harrower earned another personal record after improving her 200-meter record yesterday. Today, in the 400-meter run, Harrower finished in 55.82 seconds. Her run earns her the second spot in the Big Sky and improves her third-place standing in UND history.
In the 800-meter, Megan Kienholz earned a personal record and cracked UND's top-10 with a run of 2:14.68.
On the men's side, senior Cody Mach earned a personal record in the weight throw. His throw of 61-03.00 (18.67) improved his second-place standing in UND history and puts him at third in the Big Sky.
Also earning a personal record was Scott Kvidera. His 800-meter run of 1:55.83 earned him the 10th spot in the UND record books.
“It's exciting when you have so many great performances that you can't even talk about them all,” said Galbraith.
The track and field team competes again Saturday, Feb. 18 when it will host its first home meet in the High Performance Center.
