GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Further establishing itself as one of the premier volleyball programs in the Upper Midwest, University of North Dakota Athletics has announced that all 11 games played at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center will be carried live on television for the first time in program history.
Â
"This is another seminal moment in the progression of our volleyball program," said Athletics Director
Bill Chaves. "I want to thank our media partners, MidcoSN and FOX Sports North, for making this possible as well as our external staff for working diligently to accomplish this."
Â
UND becomes the only school in The Summit League to have all of its home matches aired on TV and more than doubles the next closest program.
Â
"It's really nice to know that we will be able to have all of our home matches televised," said UND head coach
Mark Pryor. "It's great for the program, the university, and the community. It allows us to showcase all the positives about being a part of the University of North Dakota to the region. It's our job to make sure that every viewer gets a great representation of Grand Forks, UND, and our athletic department."
Â
MidcoSN will carry three home matches, including the inaugural Summit League contest against in-state rival North Dakota State on Sept. 26. The network will also carry the matchups against four-time defending league champion Denver (Oct. 7) and Omaha (Oct. 26). MidcoSN is available across North Dakota, South Dakota, and northwestern Minnesota and also carries UND men's hockey, football, men's basketball, and women's basketball games.
Â
North Dakota will have the other eight home contests carried on FOX Sports North and FOX Sports North PLUS as part of the school's third tier production agreement with the network, the most volleyball games shown on the two channels since the agreement began in 2014. Over those five years, the Fighting Hawks have had 21 matches aired on FOX Sports North & FOX Sports North PLUS and are produced by the school's athletic department with crews of students, staff, and freelancers. Fans can access the pair of channels on their cable subscription across the Upper Midwest as well as accessing UND sports on the go through the FOX Sports GO app.
Â
The home broadcast schedule begins this weekend with the annual UND Classic presented by Buffalo Wild Wings. The Fighting Hawks will battle Eastern Washington at noon on FOX Sports North beginning on Thursday before hosting Western Carolina and Louisiana Tech at 11:30 a.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.
