NOTES: North Dakota battles ranked foe for fourth straight week

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – RV/RV North Dakota returns home for another battle against a ranked opponent. This time, the Fighting Hawks will host No. 12/12 UC Davis on Saturday afternoon from the Alerus Center on MidcoSN and Pluto TV.

This will be the ninth meeting between UND and UC Davis, with the teams splitting the last four matchups. It was a rude welcome from the Aggies to Division I, as UC Davis claimed all three games from 2008-2010, but UND has rattled off wins in 2011 and 2014. The Hawks are 2-1 all-time in the Alerus Center, including the infamous 14-2 win in the 2001 Division II semifinals.

Another week, another test for this North Dakota secondary, as the nation's top passing defense takes on the eighth-ranked passing offense in the country this weekend. UND has held its opponent under 200 yards passing through four straight games for the first time since 2007 when UND was still a member of Division II. Eric Barriere, who entered the game against UND as the nation's leading passer for Eastern Washington, was held to just 93 yards and zero touchdowns through the air. The total is his lowest since taking over as the starter in 2017 and the fewest by an EWU team since Oct. 31, 1998.

Saturday will mark the first time since the 2004 DII playoffs that the green and white have played a ranked team in four consecutive weeks. UND is in the middle of an eight-game stretch against teams that are currently ranked or receiving votes in either the STATS or Coaches poll.
