GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of North Dakota women's soccer team began its final homestand of the season Thursday afternoon at Bronson Field, hosting Champion Denver. Though the Fighting Hawks got the first scoring chances, it was the Pioneers that capitalized as they defeated UND, 7-0.
"It was a bit disappointing today," said Head Coach
Chris Logan after the match, "in the first half, we played well. I thought it was an even game for the most part. Mimi got in on goal on a breakaway that goalkeeper made a save on, and then
Mara Yapello got a chance as well.
"The second goal hurt us because we had to change the way we played," Logan added, "if we had gone into halftime down by one, we could've kept with the structure that we were in. We weren't just trying to defend them, we were trying to go out and attack, and a lot of teams aren't bold enough to try and do that."
UND posted two shots on goal in each half and even recorded the first two corner kicks of the match. Denver registered 14 shots on goal and five assists on their seven goals.
Goalkeeper
Madi Livingston, who made her first career start for the Fighting Hawks, posted seven saves in the match.
UND will close the week against Omaha on Sunday, Oct. 27, hosting the Mavericks at 1 p.m., at Bronson Field.
