Kawaguchi wins NCHC's Forward of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.-- Junior forward Jordan Kawaguchi was named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference's Forward of the Week for his contributions in North Dakota's home sweep of Bemidji State last weekend. The Abbottsford, B.C., native collected his first goal and added a pair of assists as UND won 2-1 (overtime) and 4-1, on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

Kawaguchi, the team's leading point scorer last season, finally got his first goal of the season Friday. His tally in the third period tied the score and Westin Michaud later won it in overtime. Saturday, he pitched in two assists in the 4-1 win.

All told, Kawaguchi was a team-leading +3 plus/minus rating on the weekend.

UND has had a player of the week honoree in each of the three weeks this season: Adam Scheel (goalie - Oct. 14) and Shane Pinto (rookie - Oct. 21).

North Dakota faces its third straight WCHA opponent this week with the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame game against Michigan Tech at the Ralph Engelstad Arena. Puck drop is at 7:07 p.m.
