BROOKINGS, S.D. - Battling Summit League title contender South Dakota State to a scoreless draw at halftime, the University of North Dakota fell to the Jackrabbits in its weekend finale, 3-0.
Both teams combined for nine shots in the opening 45 minutes as the Fighting Hawks did not allow SDSU to find the goalmouth in the frame. The Jackrabbits controlled possession as they totaled six corner kicks in the half and 10 total in 90 minutes of play.
The Jacks struck first blood in the first four minutes of the second half as Maya Hansen scored in the 49th minute on a ball from Gabby Vivier-Hannay. Just eight minutes later, SDSU doubled its lead as Carina McLennan scored unassisted in the 56th minute to put improve the Jackrabbits lead, 2-0.
While UND tried to pressure South Dakota State to get on the board, including a shot on goal by
Hannah Olson in the 71st minute, the Fighting Hawks were unable to find the back of the net. North Dakota totaled four shots in the match, two each half.
Catherine Klein faced six shots, saving three in the contest.
UND will return to action on Oct. 11 when it hits the road for Purdue Fort Wayne. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m., Central.
