UND athletes etch 3.0 combined GPA for 21st straight semester

Fighting Hawk athletes boast a combined 3.194 GPA

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of North Dakota' student-athletes combined for a 3.194 collective grade-point average during the Fall 2018 semester and carry an overall 3.208 cumulative GPA, according to data released recently by the UND Athletics Department.

North Dakota's student-athletes have now achieved a collective GPA of 3.0 or higher in 21 consecutive semesters since the University transitioned to Division I in 2008-09.

"Our department is extremely fortunate to have so many great student-athletes that put in the hard work and dedication it takes to continue this great academic success year after year," UND Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Support Services Andres Freeman said. "It's so amazing to watch our athletes not only succeed in their sport, but continue this run in the classroom for the last 21 semesters. I know our Student-Athlete Support Services staff along with our coaches help push these students, but for the most part, it is their drive in their studies that leads us to an accomplishment like this."

Sixty-eight percent of UND's student-athletes (258 out of 382) achieved a 3.0 semester GPA during the fall semester, including nearly a fifth of total athletes (74) boasting a perfect 4.0. Additionally, 13 of UND's 15 teams have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater, led by women's cross country (3.541), women's golf (3.520), women's track and field (3.491) and women's basketball (3.489).
