GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The University of North Dakota women's tennis team returned home with a bang, cruising past Gustavus Adolphus, 7-0, on Saturday morning at Choice Health & Fitness.
Â
The Fighting Hawks (4-3) dropped only one match and one other set in the winning effort, collecting their fourth triumph of the season and second straight victory.
Â
Opening up with doubles play, North Dakota grabbed the early momentum with a 6-1 win on the No. 2 court by
Kaede Amano and
Masha Lobanova, but the Golden Gusties (4-2) answered back with a 6-2 victory on the bottom court to turn all eyes towards the top position. There,
Preethi Kasilingam and
Allie Ochotorena battled to a 6-4 triumph to give the Fighting Hawks the all-important doubles point and a 1-0 lead.
Â
It was the bottom courts who provided the spark for the hosts on Saturday afternoon, as the fourth, fifth, and sixth positions all cruised to victories to help the Hawks clinch the win.
Â
Ochotorena rattled off a 6-2, 6-1 triumph on the No. 4 court before
Zahra Finnigan followed suit with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the fifth position to quickly make it 3-0 in favor of the Hawks.
Alex Revenig wasted no time cementing the win for UND with a pair of 6-1 victories on the bottom court to make it back-to-back overall W's for North Dakota.
Â
On the top trio courts, UND continued to show its dominance with another three victories. Amano collected the first on the No. 2 court with a 6-2, 6-3 score, and Kasilingam rolled to a 6-2 win in her first set before holding off her challenger, 7-5, in the second to notch the fifth triumph of the day.
