Gardner signs with Dallas Stars

DALLAS-- Former University of North Dakota forward Rhett Gardner signed a two-year, entry-level contract with the Dallas Stars Tuesday. Gardner will report to Dallas' top development affiliate in the American Hockey League on an amateur tryout for the remainder of the 2018-19 season.

Gardner was taken in the fourth round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft prior to playing his four seasons at North Dakota. An assistant captain this past season, Gardner scored eight goals and added even assists to give him 74 career points.

The 23-year-old lefty has the second-most career faceoff wins at UND, since the school has tracked that statistic. Overall this season, he won 538 draws, which leads all NCAA Division I players.

The Moose Jaw, Alta., native has made the trek to Texas and is anticipating being available for Wednesday's Texas Stars game against the Grand Rapids Griffins.
