North Dakota sweeps Green Bay to open weekend

Fighting Hawks claim all but two sets in victory

Box Score GREEN BAY, Wis. – The University of North Dakota women's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 victory over Green Bay to open up its weekend of action on Saturday afternoon in Green Bay, Wis.

UND (5-5) captured victories in every set but two, snapping a two-match losing streak and moving back to .500 on the season before closing the weekend tomorrow in Milwaukee.

In doubles play, the pairing of Preethi Kasilingam and Isa Sullivan opened up action with a 6-3 victory on the No. 2 court before the top duo of Kaede Amano and Masha Lobanova sealed the early 1-0 lead with a 7-6 triumph. Both pairings were deadlocked at five on the third court when the match was called following UND's back-to-back victories in doubles play.

Carrying the momentum over from doubles play, Kasilingham collected a pair of 6-3 triumphs at the third position to quickly double the Fighting Hawks' advantage, 2-0, and Sullivan added the third point of the day for the visitors with a 6-1, 6-3 win on the top court to push the lead to 3-0 and see UND just a single victory away from clinching the match.

Zahra Finnigan and Lobanova sealed the deal for UND, as Finnigan rallied in her first set for a 7-6 win before cruising to a 6-1 triumph on the No. 4 court while Lobanova held off her opponent, 7-5, in the opening frame and posted a 6-3 victory in the second set to seal the win.

On the No. 2 court, Amano dropped her opening set, 6-1, before rallying to force a tiebreaker with a 6-4 win of her own. In the final set, Amano kept her distance with a 10-7 triumph to cement the sweep for the Fighting Hawks.

North Dakota returns to action tomorrow afternoon with a showdown against Milwaukee beginning at noon.
