2019-20 Schedule

GRAND FORKS, N.D.--  The University of North Dakota hockey team released its complete 2019-20 schedule Thursday, following Wednesday's previously-released conference slate. The non-league docket includes 13 games (eight at home) and has some old rivalries re-introduced to go along with traditional regional tilts.

Highlighting the non-league schedule is a Thanksgiving weekend trip to Minneapolis, Minn., for a two-game series against Minnesota. UND hosted the Gophers in a single-game in Las Vegas last season, a 3-1 North Dakota win in Orleans Arena for the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame game. This year, Mariucci Arena will be the setting for this rivalry on Nov. 29-30.

UND will again have the U.S. Hall of Fame Game this season, hosting old-Western Collegiate Hockey Association foe Michigan Tech on Nov. 2 at the Ralph Engelstad Arena. This will be the first meeting between the teams since North Dakota moved to the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) six seasons ago, although the teams have met 253 times previously (UND leads, 149-94-10).

Another former WCHA opponent, Minnesota State, will play host to two games on Oct. 18-19. The teams split a series last season at the Ralph with MSU taking a 7-4 win Friday before North Dakota stormed back for a 4-3 win Saturday (Oct. 19-20).

Three two-game home series also appear on the schedule with Canisius opening the regular season Oct. 11-12. Bemidji State, a regular on the schedule, will come to the Ralph for both games this season (Oct. 25-26) instead of the home-and-home series that have been on the last two seasons' schedules. Alabama-Huntsville will make just its third-ever trip to Grand Forks Jan. 3-4 for the final non-conference games of the season.

Two exhibitions are also on the docket as Manitoba lifts the lid on the season for the seventh straight season Oct. 5 at the Ralph while the second half of the season begins in Plymouth, Mich., at the home of the U.S. Under-18 Team.

Following the regular season, the NCHC Tournament begins with the best-of-three quarterfinal series March 13-15, 2020 with the top four seeds hosting the bottom four seeds on campus sites. The series winners then advance to Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minn. for the seventh annual NCHC Frozen Faceoff on Friday and Saturday, March 20-21, when a champion will be crowned. Minnesota Duluth won the Frozen Faceoff for the second time in three years in 2019. The Frozen Faceoff winner receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, as well.

NCAA Regionals sites have yet to be announced, but are expected to be released in the coming days. The 2020 Frozen Four will be in the new home of the NHL's Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Pistons, Little Caeser's Arena in downtown Motown.
