Fighting Hawks Tally Five Against V-Hawks

GRAND FORKS, N.D. - The University of North Dakota put five goals past the Viterbo V-Hawks on Friday at Bronson Field, taking the lead in the fourth minute on a Mara Yapello header.

Junior Mimi Eiden scored two goals in the affair, sweeping the match's third goal in the 29th minute and the Hawks' fourth in the 48th.

UND spent 65-percent of the match in their attacking half, peppering Viterbo with 19 shots, including 10 on goal. The Fighting Hawks worked the wings early in the match, leading to the team's first goal. Emma Bangert worked the ball into the 18-yard box and crossed the ball to Mara Yapello, who headed it in for the matches first goal.

Bangert also scored in the match, collecting a loose ball in the box in the 30th minute. One minute later, Eiden notched her first.

With North Dakota comfortably in control 4-0, Chris Logan emptied the bench and played everyone suited for the match. That resulted in freshman Lauren Glas scoring in the 90th minute of play to round out the Fighting Hawks scoring.

Defensively, UND only allowed one shot on goal, a diving save at the corner by freshman Madi Livingston.

The University of North Dakota will open the regular season on Aug. 23, hosting Montana at 3 p.m. Central.
