Vandals Erase Late Equalizer in Fighting Hawks' Non-Conference Finale

MOSCOW, Idaho - The University of North Dakota's Cassie Giddings scored an equalizing goal in the 85th minute at Idaho on Sunday. However, the Vandals Juliana deTar scored a go-ahead goal in the 89th minute as UND closed non-conference play with a 2-1 loss.

Idaho jumped out to an early lead in the 20th minute as Emmy Moore struck first blood after receiving service from Maddie Haas. Idaho outshot North Dakota in the opening 45 minutes, 8-1, posting four shots on goal to the Fighting Hawks one. Olivia Knox posted the match's first shot on goal in the sixth minute.

With UND trailing in the second half, Catherine Klein stepped up to make three saves in the frame to keep the Fighting Hawks in the match.

Giddings stepped onto the pitch in the 70th minute for Mimi Eiden and tied the match 15 minutes later after a pass from Knox. Shortly after that, deTar worked up the middle of the field and took a long crack at goal just outside the 18-yard box. deTar put the ball over Klein's head in the final minutes of the game and gave the Vandals its final 2-1 lead.

The Fighting Hawks were a mere two minutes shy of their fourth overtime match of the season, in which they are 2-0-1 this season. UND closed its non-conference season with a 6-3-1 record.

North Dakota will take a week off before opening Summit League play Homecoming Weekend, hosting South Dakota at Bronson Field.
