OMAHA, Neb. -- The University of North Dakota women's tennis team dropped a tough, 4-3, match to Missouri State on Friday evening from Omaha to begin the dual portion of the 2020 slate.Â
UND (0-1) nearly jumped out to a 1-0 lead in doubles play, as
Frida Soko and
Isa Sullivan knotted the action at one victory apiece with a 6-3 triumph from the No. 3 court, but the Bears (1-0) rallied with a 6-4 win on both the top court and from the No. 2 position to grab the point in two-person action.Â
In singles play, Missouri State rode the momentum it gained from doubles play with victories on courts one, two, and four to clinch the match.
Soko impressed in both her singles and doubles debut with a gritty, three-set win on the No. 6 court. The freshman claimed the first set, 6-4, before dropping the second by an identical score, but roared past her opponent, 10-7, in the tiebreaker to earn the point for the Hawks.Â
Freshmen continued to provide a spark in singles play for the green and white, as
Nina Zdravkovic picked up a three-set victory for herself to notch the first in her career at UND. The Serbian split the first two stanzas by a 7-6 score before polishing off the victory with a 10-4 win in the tiebreaker.Â
Allie Ochotorena added the final point for UND in singles play with a pair of 6-4 triumphs from the No. 3 position to earn the sweep.Â
