SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Senior guard
Marlon Stewart was named to the All-Summit League First Team while sophomore forward
Filip Rebraca earned honorable mention honors on Thursday afternoon as announced by the league. Stewart becomes the first North Dakota player to earn a first team selection since
Quinton Hooker in 2017 and the first since the program joined the Summit League.
Â
Stewart pieced together one of the best seasons by a North Dakota men's basketball player in recent memory, leading the Summit League in points per game (18.9) and assists per game (5.2) to become the first player since Nate Wolters in 2012-13 to lead the conference in both categories. The Rock Island, Ill., native is currently riding a streak of 23 straight games in double figures, the longest in the Summit League this season and longest in the program's Division I era (2008-present).
Â
In league play, Stewart took his game to another level by finishing as the only player to rank inside the top-7 in points per game (21.9, 2nd), assists per game (5.5, 1st), and rebounds per game (6.1, 7th). He scored at least 20 points in 11 of 16 games against conference foes, highlighted by a career-high 35 points in a win against the league champions North Dakota State. The senior also finished with a trio of double-doubles, including an 18-point, 17-rebound performance against Western Illinois to tie fellow first teamer Emmanuel Nzekwesi of Oral Roberts for the most boards by a league player this season.
Â
His 324 career assists sit 10th all-time in North Dakota history, while his 157 helpers this season are tied with Burke Barlow in 1994-95 for seventh at UND. He became the 38th player in the program to record over 1,000-career points with the green and white, with his 1,211 points sitting 20th in program history. He is also on pace to become the first player in program history to finish inside the top-10 in both career scoring average and career assists.
Â
A standout in the post, Rebraca earned an honorable mention selection after finishing third in rebounds per game (9.1), third in field goal percentage (59.3), fourth in blocks per game (1.1), 15th in points per game (14.6) and the leader in double-doubles (12).
Â
His 12 double-doubles are the most by a UND player in a single season during the program's Division I era and his 14 career double-doubles rank him tied for second with Drick Bernstine for the most since 2008. Rebraca became the first player in UND's DI history to tally a double-double in four straight games, helping lead UND to a 3-1 mark over the stretch.
Â
The Sombor, Serbia native reached double figures in 24 of the 29 games he saw action in this season, including ending the regular season with 20-points or more in three of the final four contests. Rebraca only recorded three games on the season where he did not have either double-digit points or rebounds.
Â
No. 6 North Dakota will battle No. 3 South Dakota in the Summit League Quarterfinals on Sunday at 8:30 p.m. from Sioux Falls.
