Augustana clips UND in season opener

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Augustana picked up four singles victories and captured the doubles point to defeat North Dakota, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon in women's tennis from Sioux Falls, S.D.

UND (0-1) battled to pair of three-set victories, but could not hold off the charge from the Vikings in the season opener for the Fighting Hawks.

Augie picked up three straight wins in doubles play to jump in front, 1-0, before a trio of wins in two sets to claim the victory for the Vikings.

Sapir Sela had a strong day on the No. 2 court for the visitors in her first match as a Fighting Hawk, rolling to a 6-2 win in her opening set before falling in a tightly-contested 7-6 battle in the second. Sela was able to collect the first of two singles victories for UND on the day with a 10-6 triumph in the tiebreaker.

Team captain Allie Ochotorena battled back from the No. 3 position to notch her first win of the season, as the senior followed up a 7-6 loss in the first frame with 6-1 and 10-7 victories over the final two sets to cap off the day in winning fashion for the Hawks.

North Dakota will return to action next Friday with a showdown against Colorado from Des Moines, Iowa.
