UND scoops first win over Drake, 4-3

DES MOINES, Iowa -- The University of North Dakota women's tennis team ended its weekend on a high note, dropping Drake by a 4-3 score on Sunday afternoon from Des Moines, Iowa.

UND (1-3) used the tough lessons learned against a pair of power opponents previously over the weekend to scratch-and-claw past a Bulldogs team who defeated North Dakota, 6-1, in last season's meeting.

Drake jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on the doubles courts with a trio of wins and quickly doubled its advantage with a 6-1, 6-2 victory on the No. 1 court in singles action; however, UND began to rally at the bottom positions.

Angela Georgieva chipped into the Drake advantage with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph on the No. 6 court before Isa Sullivan evened the contest at two with a pair of 6-3 wins at the fifth position to turn attention to the middle courts.

Sapir Sela gave the Hawks the lead at the No. 3 position with a 7-5, 6-1 win before Drake evened the score at three with a three-set victory on the No. 2 court to send all eyes to the fourth court.

There, Andrea Jansson rebounded from dropping the opening set with a pair of 6-4 victories to seal the win for the Fighting Hawks.

North Dakota returns to action on Feb. 19 in the Windy City against UIC at 10 a.m.
