GRAND FORKS, N.D. – North Dakota (2-6-1, 0-1-0 Summit League) fell to Kansas City (3-8-0, 1-0-0 Summit League), 1-0, in the conference home opener for both teams at Bronson Field on Friday afternoon.
The only score of the contest came in the 19th minute when UMKC's Emma Wilson scored from the top of the box off an assist from Anna Jennings. The goal happened when the ball ricocheted off the bottom of the top crossbar and crossed the line for the score.
UND had opportunities to answer but were unable to find the back of the net. North Dakota held the advantage in set pieces (6-5) and attempted six shots in the contest, with five attempts on frame. Comparatively, UMKC recorded 17 shots (seven shots on goal). The physical contest also saw eight fouls apiece for both teams.
Taylor Preston led the way for the Fighting Hawks with two shots, followed by Mary Gasaway, Lexi Miller, Olivia Valdiviaand Bailey McNitt each attempting a shot.
Madi Livingston was in goal for the entire contest and accounted for six saves. Miller, Taylor Lange and Alisha Maake also saw action for the entire 90-minute contest.
The Fighting Hawks will return to action on Sunday when they host the Golden Eagles of Oral Roberts. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at Bronson Field.
