Early Goal Lifts Tommies Over Hawks

ST. PAUL, MINN. – Despite being nearly even in possession time, North Dakota (3-12-1, 1-7-0 Summit) fell 1-0 in women's soccer action to St. Thomas (4-11-1, 2-6-0 Summit) on Friday evening at South Field.

The only score of the contest came in the 11th minute when Lexi Huber attempted a shot that was deflected, and Abby Branter found it in front of the keeper, burying the shot from five yards out for the game-winner. Both teams went scoreless for the rest of the first half and the Tommies carried the lead and a 10-8 shot advantage into halftime.

In the second half, both teams attempted six shots to give UST 17 shots at the conclusion of the match to UND's 14. North Dakota won the statistical category of saves (9-6), while St. Thomas had a 6-2 advantage in set pieces. In total, UST held a 52-48 advantage in time of possession.

Hannah Olson and Lexi Miller led the charge offensively, each with three shots. Bailey McNitt, Mara Yapello and Cassie Giddings all had two scoring attempts apiece, while Alyssa Prisock and Emma Bangert each added one scoring attempt. McNitt was the most accurate player with both of her shots on frame, followed by Yapello, Prisock, Bangert and Olson each with one shot on goal.

Madi Livingston and Abby Ellenberger split the time in goal. Livingston started the match and piled up six saves while allowing one goal. Ellenberger started the second half and had one save in 45 minutes.

Miller, Prisock, Olson, Allison Tschetter and Julia Briggs were all on the pitch for the entire 90-minute match.

North Dakota will conclude its 2021 season on Sunday, visiting Western Illinois with kickoff slated for 1 p.m. (CT).
