Fighting Hawks fall, 4-3, to Western Carolina

CULLOWHEE, N.C. -- The University of North Dakota women's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to Western Carolina on Monday afternoon in Cullowhee, N.C. 

UND (4-7) saw its three game losing streak come to an end in a tough finish, kicking off a three-match road swing during Spring Break. 

The Fighting Hawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead in doubles play thanks to victories on the top and bottom courts. Charlotte Bowles and Nina Zdravkovic rolled to a 6-3 win at the No. 3 position before the Catamounts evened it up with a triumph on the No. 2 court to turn all eyes to the top court. There, Sapir Sela and Andrea Jansson battled to a 7-5 victory to earn the 1-0 lead  for the visitors. 

Western Carolina responded in singles play with four straight wins on the second, first, third and fifth courts to jump ahead and claim the overall match victory. Isa Sullivan earned a triumph via opponent retirement at the bottom position before Amano ended the day with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-0 victory on the No. 4 court. 

North Dakota returns right back to action tomorrow against Montreat at 1:30 p.m.
