DURHAM, N.C. -- The University of North Dakota women's tennis team defeated North Carolina Central, 6-1, on Wednesday from Durham, N.C. The Fighting Hawks (5-7) earned a trio of victories, two on singles courts and one in doubles play, by default, while picking up the doubles point and three more singles wins to move to 4-1 over their last five matches.
The visitors flexed their muscles during two-person play, sweeping both contests on the top two courts to jump out to a 1-0 lead.
Kaede Amano and
Andrea Jansson picked up the first win on the top court before
Allie Ochotorena and
Nina Zdravkovic followed with a 6-0 win of their own to quickly put the Hawks in front.
Two victories via default pushed the lead to 3-0 entering singles play before Amano provided the clinching triumph by a 6-2, 6-1 score.
Isa Sullivan moved up to the fourth court and notched another victory with a 7-5, 6-3 win and Ochotorena capped off a solid day on the courts with a three-set triumph by a 3-6, 6-1, 10-8 margin.
North Dakota will enjoy a day off on Thursday before returning to the courts on Friday for a showdown with Gardner-Webb at 1 p.m.
