GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- The University of North Dakota women's tennis team captured a big win over BIG EAST Conference member Creighton on Saturday, defeating the Bluejays by a 5-2 score at Choice Health and Fitness from Grand Forks.Â
UND moves to 4-0 at home this season and has now won three straight matches to climb back to the .500 mark at 7-7. The Fighting Hawks also picked up their first win over Creighton in program history.Â
Doubles play provided some excitement to start the day, as
Allie Ochotorena and
Nina Zdravkovic started it off with a 6-0 win on the No. 2 court before a 7-6 victory by the Bluejays at the bottom spot turned all eyes to the top court. There,
Sapir Sela and
Andrea Jansson battled to a 7-6 triumph of their own to seal the point in two-person play and a 1-0 lead.Â
Creighton leveled the score at one from the No. 4 spot, but
Isa Sullivan restored the advantage for the green and white with a 6-2, 7-6 win at the bottom position. Sela kept her strong play rolling with a 7-6, 6-3 score at the top court to extend the advantage to 3-1, but a three-set win by the Bluejays at No. 2 created some drama.Â
After both dropping their first sets, Zdravkovic and Jansson both rallied to post three-set victories of their own to flip the match towards the Hawks and cement the victory.Â
North Dakota returns to action with a conference showdown at Kansas City at 2 p.m.Â
