st minute from sophomore
Olivia Valdivia proved to be the game winner as North Dakota shut out Western Illinois 2-0.
"I'm really proud of the effort and spirit put forth by the team today," said head coach
Chris Logan. "We created a lot of opportunities. It felt good to be out competing. The first goal was a special strike from Olivia. We've seen her do that in practice, and great to see her do it in a game. We had five to six players attacking that kept our game dynamic. Our four defenders and goal tender were water tight on the back end."
It was just the third game of the season for North Dakota and the seventh for Western Illinois.
The Fighting Hawks outshot the Leathernecks 8-3 in the second half and 15-13 in the game to earn the victory.
