UNIONDALE, N.Y.-- The New York Islanders have signed former UND center
Collin Adams to a two-way, two-year deal beginning in the 2021-22 season, the team announced Wednesday. Adams was the second-leading scorer for North Dakota this past season and was recently named the NCHC Player of the Month for March after his postseason performance.
Â
The Brighton, Mich., native anchored the top line for North Dakota each of the past two seasons, leading UND to back-to-back NCHC regular season titles and and the Fighting Hawks' first-ever NCHC Frozen Faceoff title.
Â
He paced UND in plus/minus rating as both a junior and a senior, finishing in the top five in the nation in that category. He ranked fifth with a +25 in 2019-20 before ranking fourth (+22) in 2020-21 as both marks led the NCHC. He was a staple in the Fighting Hawks lineup, playing all 64 games these past two years, piling up 62 points (26-36--62).
Â
Adams recorded a career-best 34 points this past season with 14 goals and 20 assists. He compiled ten points in the postseason alone, notching two goals and three assists in the NCHC quarterfinal win over Miami before etching three more goals in the NCAA Tournament (2 vs. AIC, 1 vs. Minnesota Duluth). He was +11 combined in UND's five postseason games this season.
Â
In 122 carer games, Adams totaled 77 points with 33 goals and 44 assists.
Â
Adams is a 2016 sixth-round pick of the Islanders and joins former UND products
Brock Nelson (2010-12) and recently-traded forward Travis Zajac (2004-06) in the Islanders' organization.
Â
He is now the eighth member of the 2020-21 UND team to sign a professional contract since the season's end, joining fellow draft picks defenseman
Jacob Bernard-Docker and forward
Shane Pinto with the Ottawa Senators, forward
Grant Mismash with Nashville along with free agent signees defenseman
Matt Kiersted (Florida), forward
Jordan Kawaguchi (Dallas), goalie
Adam Scheel (Dallas) and
Jackson Keane (Wheeling -ECHL).
